Welcome to the Harrisonburg Police Department on line. The Harrisonburg Police Department was created on November 12, 1872. The department consisted of one officer for the next 19 years. At that time the town included 1082 acres with a population of 2000 residents. Today Harrisonburg is a first class city covering 17.2 square miles with a population of 42,200. The Police Department has grown to employ 112 employees (79 sworn officers, 21 civilian and 12 part time positions)
